Patriot's Day

Zaharis has a school assembly each year on Patriot's Day. This year, both James and Dylan were able to participate in the flag ceremony. Since James was the oldest scout participating, he got to call it, and Dylan was part of the Color Guard.

And one of James singing in the choir. It's a bit over exposed, but the sun was coming up over the building, and I couldn't even see what I was taking!

Egg Drop

Dylan's 3rd grade class had an egg drop challenge this week. They had to make a container to protect an egg after being dropped off the roof of the school. Dylan made his out of a Dorito's can, and 4 doughnuts (2 beneath the egg, and 2 above). Then dad helped him duct tape the can shut.

Here's Dylan trying to get the can open to check on his egg...

Don't know yet....

It Lives!

More from the Award Ceremony

A few more pictures from the Award Ceremony:

Rocky Poole, PE teacher

Tom Horne, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, giving the award to Mike Oliver, Principal of Zaharis Elementary

Ready to bury a time capsule...The kids all wrote what it means to them to be healthy and active. They were placed in time capsules and buried in front of the eagle. The kids that are kindergardeners this year will get to dig them up when they are in 6th grade. Hope we don't forget where they were buried!

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds

Kaitlynn and Dylan's elementary school received an award today called "Healthy Bodies/Healthy Minds". It was given for all the work the school is doing to help the kids be active as well as learn. It was a great morning.

This is the banner they received. It will go in the gym for all to enjoy.

Here is the school's namesake, James Kendall Zaharis. I wasn't able to get a good picture of him, but I took what I could.

The 1-3 choir performed 2 of he songs from their concert.

Kaitlynn is waiting with her class for the assembly to begin.

PTO decorated the courtyard for the event with cutouts, balloons, and some writing on the windows!
